Dr. Riley Nickols joins Lindsey Elizabeth Cortez, MS, RD, CSSD on her podcast Female Athlete Nutrition, Episode 133 to discuss eating disorders in sport.

In this episode of the Female Athlete Nutrition, Dr. Nickols talks with Lindsey about some specific nuances in how eating disorders present in the athlete population, the fine line between balanced training and nutrition practices and disordered exercise and eating, and factors that make athletes more susceptible to eating disorders.

Dr. Nickols emphasizes the high prevalence of disordered eating in sport and the importance of early detection and treatment. Eating disorders are illnesses and symptoms of an eating disorder are not always obvious, so it is vital to recognize potential warning signs that an athlete is struggling, so that timely treatment can occur thereafter.
