FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you take insurance?
We are not on any insurance panels and, as such, do not accept insurance. We are happy to provide you with a superbill that contains all pertinent information for you to submit to your insurance should you desire to seek partial reimbursement for out-of-network serves. It is advisable to speak with your insurance to determine what your insurance plans out-of-network reimbursement rates are for your insurance plan.
Are my sessions confidential?
Your sessions are confidential, though as licensed psychologists, we have a mandated legal duty to report certain information should you disclose that are of danger to yourself and/or others. In an effort to support your treatment, we regularly collaborate with other providers (i.e., dietitians, physicians) and sport personnel. In order for us to speak with others about your treatment, you will need to sign a release of information and discuss with your psychologist about what information, and the purpose of such information, will be communicated.
Do you work with clients that do not identify as athletes or have transitioned out of sport?
Absolutely! Although we specialize in working with athletes, we are licensed mental health providers with a broad range of training experiences and clientele. A significant percentage of our clients identify as athletes, though, we also see individuals who do not identify as athletes and welcome the opportunity to support people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
What happens during the first session?
Ultimately, the first session is intended to better understand one another and discuss how we can best work collaboratively together to facilitate healing, understanding, and change. The initial session is an opportunity for us to understand presenting issues that contributed to you reaching out for support. We believe that you are the expert on yourself and we look forward to learning what makes you uniquely you. We encourage you to ask questions, express any concerns that you have, inquire about the process of therapy/nutrition counseling if/when they arise.
Can we meet virtually?
There are certain considerations (i.e., licensing parameters across state lines, assessment of clinical appropriateness, etc.) when meeting virtually and these will be discussed with your mental health provider to determine if the virtual platform is appropriate and possible.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy and you will be billed for sessions cancelled under this timeframe. Of course, we recognize that emergencies occur and will be open to making exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.
What theoretical approach do you use?
We utilize a person-centered, individualized, and evidence-based approach to care. Our team strongly values the therapeutic relationship and works to cultivate a trusting environment to allow for connection and authenticity. We recognize everyone’s needs are different, and thus, employ a range of modalities to target individualized mental health and/or sport performance needs. Common approaches include cognitive behavior therapies, mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies, and dialectical behavior therapy. Please feel free to contact us should you have additional questions about our approaches.
How do I know if therapy is working for me?
Increased understanding and insight into yourself, your tendencies and vulnerabilities, and integrating past experiences can all be indicative that therapy is effective. These changes and such growth can sometimes occur relatively quickly, but often take time to evolve.
